In 1915, the market was consumed in a large fire and 230 houses were lost. Emperor Taisho gave the residents 350 yen to rebuild the market. That is 2.2 million yen worth from then now. Therefore, this market is called the “Taisho-Machi market”.

In the middle of the Meiji period, fisherman’s wives had sold fish that their husbands or sons caught here. Naturally, this place became the star of a fish market. Now, various fish and agriculture products are sold  here. You can also eat fresh food and get your fish cooked right here. After you shop and have lunch, you can stroll around the port, observing the unchanged lifestyle of Japanese fishermen.
